In my Exercise Physiology class, we had to conduct a research project, I headed a team and created the idea of testing specific drinks on performance. We hypothesized that chocolate milk would be the best drink to have to improve performance, compared to Gatorade and water as the control. Creating a unique exercise program for our subjects to completely deplete carbohydrate stores and to test the drink on how well the subjects performed after ingesting the drink.

In my Biomechanics class, we had to conduct a research project, I was part of a team and helped to conduct research on the ground reaction force of people while stepping off a platform onto a reaction force pads. We measured whether the landing had more force on the dominant or non-dominant leg, we also video taped and digitized the different angles at the hip, knee, and ankle to determine who a certain angle anticipated a greater or lesser ground reaction force.
Career Goals
Once I am completed with my bachelors degree in Kinesiology, I will be pursuing my masters degree to obtain a Masters of Athletic Training in order to be able to take my certification test to become a certified Athletic Trainer under the National Athletic Trainers Association. There are very limited amount of school's that I have the opportunity to attend and I have done some research into these options. The only California school that I am able to attend, because of the very limited schools available that have accredited programs for a masters in athletic training is California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. This is ultimately my number one choice as far as graduate schools because I would like to stay in California if at all possible, but if this does not happen I will be applying also to a couple other graduate programs outside of California. University of Hawaii is another option that I have to be able to go to study athletic training, although this situation sounds ideal to anyone, Hawaii is a very competitive school and is difficult to get into, it is a "reach" school for me. Finally, I have been doing research into a couple Texas schools as well, there are 3 possible schools that I can go to in the "Lonestar" state, one of them being Texas A&M University, this would be a really exciting school to attend because I know that they are big football fans over there and I love football myself, I would get to experience how a larger school works. Once I have completed my graduate program, I plan to take my certification test to become a certified athletic trainer, and then comes the more difficult aspect, finding a job. Ideally I would love to get into a professional sports team; to be able to travel around the country, watching them play, aiding in their health and recovery would be a huge honor, unfortunately I know how difficult it is to get into a professional sports team as a woman. So as a second option, I have done some research in the military. Not many people realize how athletic trainers as used within the military, but athletic trainers are a newer yet ever growing industry within the military. If by chance, I do not get into graduate school like I ultimately plan on doing, although I may be downtrodden, I will not give up. This will only give me the opportunity to get another internship and some more experience underneath my belt, start networking within the athletic training community, and also utilizing this time to make my next application as competitive as possible, such as updating my resume, retaking the GRE's to try for a better score, or editing my "Personal Statement" essay. I know that in order to become a certified athletic trainer that I have to go to graduate school in order to even take my certification test, so not going is NOT an option for me. I haven't done much research into international options but on the NATA website there is a whole page dedicated to international options for athletic training, once I am certified. It talks about how I could have the opportunity to work in Canada, or possibly work in other countries, or even travel overseas within the military. Although this can get slightly complicated because although the terms ATC and NATA are recognized globally, my certification may not be valid within another country, although my bachelors in Kinesiology, as well as my masters in athletic training, and a good standing with NATA might provide me enough validation for possible job opportunities outside of the United States.
